Spotting Social Engineering

Audience: External and Internal Users

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Visual Design, Storyboarding, Prototyping

Tools Used: PowerPoint, Articulate Storyline

This 5-minute course allows learners to understand the flags of Social Engineering.

  • User feedback gathered during scoping revealed a significant awareness gap. Learners had little understanding of social engineering tactics or how those tactics were being used to target them directly. Feedback also surfaced a clear learner preference: given demanding schedules, a short and focused course would have the most impact. These findings shaped both the learning objectives and the decision to keep the course concise and immediately applicable.

  • The storyboard was built in PowerPoint to enable seamless collaboration with stakeholders before development began in Articulate Storyline. Using a familiar tool lowered the barrier for feedback and allowed stakeholders to provide meaningful input on content and flow early in the process. This alignment up front reduced the risk of costly revisions during development.

  • The prototype was tested by both stakeholders and a select group of learner testers drawn from the original scoping group. These were the same users who had identified the awareness gap, which closed the feedback loop and ensured the final course reflected real learner needs. Their input was used to iterate and refine the course before final delivery.
